Queensferry is not IStructE. Everything below is the Institution's, and where a figure changes between sessions this site deliberately holds none.
What this site is, and is not
This domain is independent peer guidance. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by the Institution of Structural Engineers or the Engineering Council. Nothing here is official guidance, nobody here awards membership, and nothing on this site confirms that a Core Objective has been met.
Where the Institution states a requirement, this site quotes it and attributes it. Where the Institution publishes something that changes between sessions — dates, deadlines, fees — this site publishes no figure at all, because a stale number is worse than an absent one.
What you must take from IStructE, not from here
- Whether you are eligible, and for which grade.
- Whether your qualifications meet the academic requirement.
- Application deadlines, examination dates and every fee.
- The current portfolio checklist, which must be signed and first in your portfolio.
- The IPD final report forms, and every other official form.
- Any decision about your application, at any stage.
- The current Technical Report Route requirements, none of which are published here.
How the documents behind this domain were read
Ten official documents were supplied. Three had extractable text and were read in full. Four were scanned images that were rendered and read visually. One — the Incorporated-Membership Exam Preparation Guidance — was not read; nothing on this site depends on it alone. Two further sets of material, an archive of past examination papers and a commercially published course, were treated as private reference only, and nothing from either is reproduced anywhere here.
Where two sources conflicted, or where a document carried no date, the conflict was recorded and the figure withheld rather than resolved silently. The Technical Report Route guidance is the clearest example: it has no version line and no date, so every limit on that route is withheld.
Start here, at the Institution
Institution of Structural Engineers
- Membership and eligibility — which grade applies to you, and what it requires.
- Academic requirements — including the assessment of qualifications gained outside the UK.
- IPD guidance for the grade you are seeking, which sets the Core Objectives and their minimum standards.
- The portfolio checklist, downloaded fresh — a stale copy means signing a declaration against superseded requirements.
- Exam guidance and instructions for your paper, which carries the section structure, the marks and the rules of the day.
- Key dates and fees, which are published by the Institution and are not stated anywhere on this site.

Stated plainly so that you can judge how much weight to put on any part of this site. Where a document was not read, that is said rather than glossed over.
