Phase 6 · Prepare for the review
Presentation planner and rehearsal timer
Plan the fifteen minutes section by section, rehearse against a timer, and see the questions your subject invites.
Who this is for:Candidates at any stage
A planner for the fifteen minutes, with a rehearsal timer that tells you where you actually are rather than where you meant to be.
Subject
ICE asks for an aspect of your report, expanded. Not a summary of the report, and not a summary of your CV.
What depth does it have that the report could not carry? If a reviewer could get everything from reading the report, choose something else.
Fifteen minutes
Aim for thirteen or fourteen. Reviewers may stop you at fifteen, and the time comes out of your interview.
Nothing planned yet.
What would you ask, if you were the reviewer? Prepare for those.
Everything here is stored in this browser only. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is analysed, and clearing your browser data will delete it — so export anything you want to keep.
Rehearsal timer
Rehearse out loud, standing or seated as you will be on the day. Reading it silently always underestimates.
00:00
Timer stopped.
Rehearsing properly
Three rehearsals, each with a different purpose, are worth more than ten of the same kind.
Alone, to time. The first tells you how long it really is. Almost everyone is over on the first attempt, usually by three or four minutes, and the cut is always in the background rather than the engineering.
To someone who does not know the project. They will stop you at the point where you assumed knowledge you did not give them. That point is invisible to you.
To your lead sponsor, with questions afterwards. Arranging practice interviews is part of their role. The questions matter more than the presentation here — you are finding out where the material is thin.
