Phase 6 · Prepare for the review

Mock review

Run a practice sequence of questions and follow-ups, in coaching mode or under timed conditions.

Who this is for:Candidates at any stage ·Mentors

A practice sequence built from your level, discipline, setting and the areas you are weakest in — with follow-up questions that go where a reviewer would.

Set up a mock review

Choose your level, the kind of work you do, and the areas you want pushed on. Coaching mode gives you prompts as you go; formal mode withholds everything until the end.

Areas to concentrate on (leave blank for a spread)

There is no pass or fail here. Queensferry does not assess competence and has no standing with ICE. Answer out loud — typing is optional, and anything you type stays in this browser.

Two modes

Coaching mode gives you the prompts as you go: what the question is testing, what a strong answer contains, and a reflection prompt afterwards. Use it early, when you are still working out what your answers are.

Formal mode withholds all of that. You get the question, a timer, and the follow-ups. Feedback comes only at the end. Use it in the fortnight before your review, when what you need to practise is thinking without help.

Neither mode records anything unless you ask it to. If you choose to type notes, they stay in your browser.

The best mock review is still a person

Nothing here replaces a practice interview with your lead sponsor or another chartered engineer. A person notices that you dodged the question, hears the hesitation, and can push on the thing you obviously do not want to talk about. Use this tool to get the reps in, and use people for the pressure.
